Global Football Powers and Historic Returns
Several of the teams competing in Miami bring major international pedigree.
Portugal will appear at their seventh consecutive World Cup, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds records as the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifying and the first player to score in five separate tournaments.
Colombia returns to the World Cup for the first time since 2018, buoyed by a strong qualification campaign in South America and memories of their memorable run at Brazil 2014.
Scotland will make their first World Cup appearance in 28 years after a dramatic qualification campaign, marking a long-awaited return to the tournament for the Tartan Army.
Saudi Arabia continues a strong modern World Cup presence, qualifying for their seventh tournament in nine editions. Their upset victory over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup remains one of the competition’s most talked-about moments.
Uruguay, two-time World Cup champions, brings a storied football history to Miami, while Cabo Verde arrives following a historic qualification run that marks one of African football’s rising success stories.

Miami Prepares for Global Visitors
Miami’s diverse cultural landscape is expected to play a key role in welcoming supporters from around the world. From its international dining scene and cultural neighbourhoods to beaches, outdoor attractions and art and entertainment districts, the city is positioning itself as more than just a matchday destination. And for fans who like to explore, Miami’s cruise terminals offer the chance to combine match trips with short sailings along the Caribbean, providing a unique way to extend the trip beyond the stadium.
The World Cup fixtures add to Miami’s growing reputation as a host city for major international sporting events, alongside the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, Miami Open tennis tournament, World Baseball Classic and college football’s Orange Bowl.

FIFA Fan Festival™ Coming to Bayfront Park
In addition to the matches themselves, Miami will host the FIFA Fan Festival™ at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. The 23-day waterfront event is expected to welcome up to 30,000 fans per day and will feature live match screenings, concerts, cultural performances and interactive fan experiences.
Organisers say the festival will serve as a central gathering point for fans throughout the tournament, with full entertainment line-ups to be announced closer to the event.

Airport Preparations Ahead of 2026
Miami International Airport is also preparing for increased international travel ahead of the World Cup. CLEAR has expanded its identity verification technology at the airport, introducing new automated eGates designed to streamline security screening for international passengers.
With major matches, fan events and infrastructure upgrades underway, Miami is set to play a central role when the world’s biggest football tournament arrives in North America in 2026.
