When coming into port in Bilbao ships will dock in a pretty port town called Getxo.
Can you get into town on foot from Bilbao port?
You can get in Getxo or the beach close by, however Bilbao is a shuttle bus ride away. The bus can take roughly between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the time of day. Top tip, coordinate your trip to avoid rush hour for a much quicker journey.

What shore excursions can I do from Bilbao?
If you are looking for a family friendly day and want to do an independent excursion into Bilbao, I would advise getting the shuttle bus directly from the port. We sailed with Celebrity Cruises and the shuttle bus cost €12 ( €10 with Royal Caribbean) per person return and took us directly from the port into Bilbao. Dropping us off minutes from the Guggenheim museum the old town, many shops and its gothic Cathedral of Santiago.
If you want to stay close to the ship in Bilbao
There’s no denying that top of most young kid’s port day must-dos is a trip to the beach. From Bilbao’s cruise terminal you can walk 800m to a long stretch of sandy beach from which you can see your ship. Don’t forget buckets and spades! If you fancy an ice cream or meal there’s a large marina with restaurants and shops on the other side of the road.
