Getting Around On The Disney Monorail

Disney transport is free to guests staying onsite at Walt Disney World. Thus should you want to avoid driving and make the most of the free transport to and from parks and entertainment areas it’s important to familiarise yourself with all the transport options available at Disney In Orlando.

This guide will take you through the Monorail, where you can catch it and what parks its reaches from which hotel. This will help you choose the right hotel for your stay. Or indeed help you get between the parks with your park hopper ticket during the day.

What Is The Disney Monorail?

The Disney Monorail system is set up in the sky high above the roads and traffic of Disney, meaning this mode of travel is a great way to avoid crowds after a day in the parks. Additionally when you are visiting Disney with children the Monorail is part of the fun of staying onsite at Disney. Although the Monorail does get busy at peak times in the parks it is still such a fun way to get about.

It’s made up of 3 separate beams that travel throughout Walt Disney World Resort to stop at certain locations :

  • Magic Kingdom park
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort with walking access through to Bay Lake Tower.
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

There is also an express services from the Disney Transportation and ticket Centre ( Next to the Magic Kingdom Car Park) which runs between Epcot and Magic Kingdom, this is great for hopping between the parks during the day.

Where Are The Monorail Stations?

The Monorail stations for the Epcot and Magic Kingdom service are both located outside the main entrances to the parks. To get between the parks simply swap at the Ticket And Transportation Centre Station between the parks.

The Magic Kingdom Monorail Station is to the left of the main gates, is a short walk down the ramp to the entrance of the park.

Disneys Contemporary Resort Grand Canyon Concourse Station is located inside the hotel as the Monorail runs right through the centre of the Contemporary Resort. Here you will find Chef Mickey and a selection of Disney stores.

The Grand Floridian and Polynesian Village Resorts Monorail Stations are located directly outside the hotels with a ramp taking you into the hotels to the shops and restaurants.

What Times Do The Monorails Run?

The Monorail System starts 30 minutes before the earliest park opening until one hour after the last park closes. Check daily opening times to confirm for each day.

Is The Disney Monorail Free

Yes the monorail is situated outside the park entrances and is free for all guests to ride. This is also a great way of getting to the resorts if you are dining in any of the on site hotels.
